Bison's 'uke update - The process of shaping the heel and mounting the sound board to neck.

Since this 'ukulele has a "Spanish Style" neck construction the sides will be attached into the neck with heel slots.

Solid heel...

Since the heel and bottom of the neck were bigger then the side, it had to be cut down. The heel was left tall so it will be flush with the bottom of the finished 'uke.

Subtle features of the neck....

The neck has a shelf cut out on the top where the soundboard is secured...

After the side slots are cut into the neck.......  

 the heel is rough cut on a band saw......

 then the neck is placed on a heel nibbler jig to speed up the process of shaping the heel.

Here is the rough cut neck before chiseling the heel into a more asthetic feature of the 'ukulele.
